Today, Singapore celebrates it's birthday for the first time at Marina Bay. Lesser seats this time round... only 27,000. Security checks were surprisingly fast, and almost all was seated by the time pre-parade started.Amazing. 1st time they manage to put air, land and sea performance together in one show. And marina wave ...lol.
Combined school choir was missing. But there was live performance by SSO, SCO ,Malay and Indian Ensembles, talented local soloists and the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Central Band, forming a 240 strong orchestra with Yeh Tsung as the conductor.The 3D show put up by the army and police were interesting and unexpected. Nice.
This year, the shows are divided into more parts ( 5 sections in total ) instead of the usual 3 longer "musical". The five segments are, Sea, Earth, Sky, People and Fire, weaved together by a central character, SING, which symbolises the tremendous willpower and bountiful energy of Singapore and Singaporeans.
The Sea segment portrays the discovery of the Singaporean identity as we mature from the early settlement days to modern Singapore.
The Earth segment is an analogy of the preservation of Singapore as a garden city even as the country pursues technological advancements.
The Sky segment depicts Singaporeans’ pursuit and realisation of their dreams and aspirations. The People segment pays tribute to the pioneers of Singapore while the Fire segment symbolises the passion in every Singaporean.
With the help of a water screen and lasers and light effect, I would say it's well matched together. Beautiful effects.
Lucky me, I got to go and see the parade at Marina Bay. 1st time NDP and marina bay and also coincidentally my 1st NDP. Feels different because you'll get small little "surprises".... fireworks lor... when you see from tv, the impact is not there. Wonderful experience, though you don't get to see the performance as you see on tv. It's a trade off I guess. With the surprises and fireworks just poping in front of you, it feels great.Shall post some photos if I'm not too lazy to choose some nicer ones out. lol. Happy 42nd Birthday Singapore.
